Hopeland: An Eco Community in Southern Greece [2022]
Hopeland is an eco-community located on a 7.6-acre property in the region of Argolida, Greece. The project was first conceived in 2011 by Erato Hatzimihalaki as a space where families could spend time in nature, living and learning together outside the pace of urban life.
Built around four pillars—Environment, Tradition, Culture, and Personal Development—Hopeland has gradually grown into a meeting point for people interested in more sustainable ways of living. After its first seven years, the community began hosting international projects through programs such as Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps, welcoming volunteers and participants from different parts of the world.
Today, Hopeland is home to long-term volunteers and visitors who share daily work, learning, and communal life while engaging with nearby communities such as the town of Koutsopodi.
This documentary project explores everyday life within Hopeland: a clay-built oasis where alternative ways of living, working, and relating to the land take shape just outside the rhythms of contemporary urban society.
